“And what does the Lord require of you? To … love mercy.” — Micah 6:8

What We Do
Rooted in the call to love mercy, the Care and Connection Ministry Circle ensures that the heart of our congregation—care, connection, and welcome—remains vibrant and strong. Through its various ministry teams, Care & Connection helps us live out God’s love in tangible, life-giving ways.

  • Supporting Congregants: Offer care, comfort, prayer, meals, visitation, and practical support during illness, grief, transitions, or hardship.

  • Building Fellowship: Provide inclusive fellowship opportunities for people across generations, identities, and interests—including women’s, men’s, young adult, LGBTQ+ (Rainbow), and family fellowship groups.

  • Welcoming Newcomers: Create pathways of welcome and belonging for visitors and new members through intentional hospitality and connection.

Our Vision
We envision a church that not only speaks of justice but practices it—boldly, consistently, and lovingly. Through the leadership of this Circle, First Congregational UCC will continue to be a visible and vibrant advocate for equity, compassion, and peace in Salem and beyond. Inspired by Christ’s call, we strive to act justly, love mercy, and walk humbly in all we do.

Feel called to participate with Care and Connection?

There are many ways to share your gifts—offering care, preparing meals, hosting gatherings, offering prayer, welcoming newcomers, or simply showing up with love. Together, we answer Micah’s call to love mercy by creating a congregation rooted in compassion, connection, and belonging.

Here are the Teams where you can serve your neighbors:

  • Open Table Team: Coordinate food-based ministries such as Sunday fellowship, potlucks, meal trains, and community meals, ensuring hospitality that is nourishing and accessible for all.

  • Parish Care Team: Provide spiritual and emotional support through prayer, cards, visits, transportation assistance, and compassionate presence.

  • Team Welcome: Foster relationships across difference—connecting long-time and new members, supporting integration, and strengthening the bonds of our entire congregation.
