As we gather this Christmas, surrounded by the warmth of twinkling lights and the familiar carols of the season, we are reminded of a journey—a journey that begins in Bethlehem and continues to Emmaus. From the humble manger where hope was born, to the dusty road where hope was renewed, the story of Christ invites us to see God’s presence in the midst of life’s uncertainties.
This past year, our church has been on its own journey from Bethlehem to Emmaus. We have faced losses—of beloved friends, familiar traditions, and the steady rhythms that once anchored us. Like the disciples walking the Emmaus road, we have carried heavy hearts and unanswered questions. But along the way, something remarkable has happened: we have encountered the risen Christ in new and unexpected ways.
In our choice to embrace the call of a Resurrecting Church, we have:
Opened our hearts to discover new traditions that honor our past while making space for the Spirit’s unfolding work.
Welcomed new friends and old, building relationships that remind us of the boundless love of God.
Made space for renewal, not just as individuals but as a community, preparing to fresh purpose and joy in our shared mission.
These moments are our Emmaus experience, where loss is met with the presence of Christ, and where hope is rekindled in the breaking of bread and the sharing of life.
As we celebrate Christmas this year, may we remember the journey—from the birth of love in Bethlehem to the renewal of hope on the Emmaus road. May this season remind us that God is with us in every step, from the manger to the table, from our losses to our renewal.
With hearts full of gratitude, let us look toward to the new year, trusting in the God who continues to walk with us and make all things new.
May your Christmas be filled with the peace, joy, and hope of Christ, and may you feel the presence of the One who journeys with us, always.
With deep gratitude and Christmas blessings,
Pastor Robin
