A Word for the Season

The air has shifted.

Mornings carry a crispness that wasn’t there a few weeks ago, and the leaves are beginning their slow transformation into shades of gold and crimson. Autumn reminds us that creation has its faithful rhythms—summer’s brightness gives way to fall’s quiet beauty, and in due time, winter’s stillness will prepare the way for spring’s renewal.

In a world where headlines often leave us deeply unsettled and the pace of change feels relentless; these natural cycles can bring a deep comfort. They remind us that change is not chaos, but part of God’s design. The turning of the seasons speaks of continuity, of endings that make space for new beginnings, of letting go in order to receive.

The psalmist offers words of reassurance: “The earth is the Lord’s, and all that is in it, the world, and those who live in it” (Psalm 24:1). In other words, even as the seasons turn, we are held in God’s care.

And so, a poem for this season...

ring of fire
ring of fire

You do not have to know

where the leaf will fall,

only that the tree

lets it go—

without fear,

without hurry,

trusting the soil

to hold what it cannot keep.

You too

are carried in such a way,

even now,

through the chill of morning,

through the breaking of days.

The hand that shaped the season

shapes you still.

May this autumn be a teacher for us—a time to breathe deeply, to notice beauty, and to remember that God’s faithfulness endures from season to season, year to year.

With gratitude for the cycles,

Pastor Robin
